Belcanto Reviews

Alma and Belcanto are the only two restaurants in Lisbon that have received two Michelin stars. As a result of my dining experiences at the former followed by the latter on consecutive evenings, I can confidently state that Alma underwhelmed whereas Belcanto genuinely wowed. I had previously dined at Belcanto some years ago and had been looking forward to returning since the prior experience had been very amazing. I was not disappointed. It was exactly as wonderful and delightful as it had been the last time. The new location, as well as the interior design, are both stylish and attractive. Although attentive without being intrusive, the wait staff had a light sense of humour and participated in polite banter, which contributed to the overall atmosphere of a fun-loving evening. The cuisine was very good, and it was served without the use of excessive style or visual histrionics. They were delicious because the ingredients were so fresh, and they were presented beautifully. The timing and amounts were exactly great, and the flavors were quite refreshing. The a la carte menu was what my husband and I chose (for the record, we ordered from it). The sommelier who served us that evening (3 February) – Jose, I think his name was – was really friendly and suggested to us a great bottle of Orange wine that went well with our dishes. He deserves a particular mention. Belcanto is a fantastic restaurant that I would suggest to anybody visiting Lisbon and looking for a pleasant dining experience. M and I will be returning the next time we come to this part of the world.
