Manresa Reviews

Despite having a well-deserved reputation as one of the Bay Area’s most highly praised restaurants, Manresa is a warm and friendly space that is strikingly elegant and remarkably accommodating for a fine-dining establishment. Chef David Kinch collaborates with some of the region’s most renowned producers, transforming items from Andy’s Orchard, Pistils & Petals Farm, and Dirty Girl, among others, into culinary works of art in his kitchen.

The nightly compositions are a mystery until they are placed on the dining room table (a souvenir copy of the menu will be handed to you at the end). Everything about the food is both cerebral and luxurious, approachable and completely delicious. From the savory petit fours that are an optical illusion on the taste until the last dish, each course is likely to reflect a period in time within a season. Try the red-pepper pâtes de fruits or the black olive madeleines, as well as the outstanding bread cooked in the branch bakery using freshly milled flour from the restaurant’s own mill. Tender striped bass is cooked in a saffron bouillabaisse and served with a crunchy brioche wafer on the side. Using charred beurre blanc and its incredible smokiness, even something as basic as asparagus is elevated to a new level of sophistication.

Don’t forget to pick up some of the delicious vanilla bean caramels that are available on your way out.
