I went to a three-star Uberfahrt hotel. I had visited Atelier just a few days earlier, and the meal at Atelier much outshone that at Uberfahrt in practically every way. I don’t say this because Uberfahrt was a horrible lunch – in fact, I actually liked it a great deal. To demonstrate how really great my lunch at Atelier was, I’ll say this. The meal was ambitious and sophisticated, yet it never lost sight of the fact that the most crucial aspects of every dish are balance and flavor. Only a few years ago, in 2018, Jan Hartwig was awarded his third and last star. In spite of the fact that there is no fourth star to be achieved based on my meal, Hartwig’s kitchen and cuisine are definitely progressing under his direction.
